This series of 20 oil paintings is based on photographs taken by the artist and completed over a period of two years. The object of these paintings, based on first impressions the artist received from people she just met, is to provoke in the observer profound perceptions of these individuals through a combination of image and words. You, the viewer, are able to see others, and perhaps yourselves, through this up-close and personal vantage point. The point being that we all harbor pretensions, gestures, and facades which, when perceived, can bring us closer to our purpose in life, our dreams, and keep us in tune with reality. Words used permission of David Byrne from the song "Seen and Not Seen" copyright 1984. |
